To Grind Your Coffee Beans
To grind the coffee beans yourself you need a coffee bean grinder.
Once you grind your beans, you'll witness the fresh flavors escaping the beans and filling the air. Brew as soon as possible after grinding to preserve as much of the flavors as possible.
There are essentially two different kinds of grinders. One kind is the blade grinder, which is less expensive but does not produce as good quality ground as the other grinder.
The other kind is the burr coffee grinder which is more expensive but produces ground of better quality.

The blade coffee bean grinder is good as a basic coffee mill. It is affordable; however, it does produces uneven and non-consistent ground, as it just chops off the beans.

The Burr mill coffee grinder, on the other hand, uses a method that grinds the coffee beans evenly and produces consistent ground in various degrees of coarse or fine according to your selection.

Not Too Coarse Nor Too Fine
When grinding the beans, do not grind too coarse or too fine. The former one will produce weaker coffee with less flavor, whilst the latter one may produces coffee that is too bitter.
Buy a coffee bean grinder machine that does a good job grinding the coffee beans, has good features and produces good coffee.
However, you may decide to buy an inexpensive grinder, perhaps at the expense of the quality of the coffee, if you don't want to spend too much.
Coffee Grinder Features
Another factor to consider is the noise making of the cofee grinder. It can be annoying and besides, you don't want to wake up your family whenever you decide to brew a coffee in the middle of the night or early in the morning.
Some coffee-grinders make a loud noise; others do their jobs more quietly. So, if noise is too distracting and a major issue for you, you may want to buy one that is not as noisy.
Good grinders have various control settings, like a timer, an automatic shutting off feature and selectors for grinding to a wide range of fineness.
Set the shut-off feature so that it shuts off once the grinding is done and does not overflow and spill.
Likewise, good coffee grinders are equipped with cleaning features to easily clean the parts, including the hoppers containing the whole beans and the grounds.
Keep the Coffee Beans Fresh
Some recommend to fill the hopper with only as many beans as you need for your cup of coffee now instead of pouring more and deciding afterwards how much to grind. This way the beans will remain fresh.
This is also the reason why some people prefer grinders with smaller hoppers that can take in less beans. This will also affect the overall size of the coffe grinder unit.
