Are the 4 Cup Coffee Makers Worth the Money?

OK, so the 4 cup makers are great for low-quantity coffee drinkers, for traveling, for saving space at home or office, and they're inexpensive.

But what about the taste? Why do people complain that its coffee has a taste of plastic of the coffee machine?

What about coffee spills all over? Do all the cheap units dribble or spill? Is it worth to have the coffeemaker with a timer if the timer won't be reliable?

Bottom line - to buy or not to buy the coffee-maker? Would anyone go for the Mr. Coffee series, Black Dacker, or else?
