A 5 cup coffee maker, just as 4 cup coffeemakers, is useful for individual coffee drinkers or for 2 people drinking a low amount of coffee. To be sure, the "5 cups" refer to small cup-sizes as usual in the coffeemaker industry, amounting to about 2 mugs of coffee.
5 Cups Coffee Makers Reviews
Below are reviews of some 5 cup coffee makers.
Mr. Coffee JWX9 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless Steel Carafe
Programmable Mr. Coffee 5 CupCoffee Maker with Stainless Steel Carafe |
The Mr. Coffee JWX9 5 cup programmable 5 Cup coffee maker has the capacity to brew 5 cups - great for saving space, and for travel; designed for people drinking limited amounts of coffee ("5 cups" refer to small cup-sizes). |
It has a stainless steel carafe (it's not double-walled).
Its price is affordable at about $25.
The coffee maker includes programmable features and is easy to operate and clean.
As typical for low-end coffee makers, temperature is not very hot.
ADVANTAGES Small and compact Nice design Stainless steel carafe is more durable than glass pots |
DISADVANTAGES: You can't see through the stainless carafe amount of water or coffee within, unless opened. It may be somewhat hard to pour with the carafe without spilling - pour slowly! |
BOTTOM LINE:
Useful if you drink a conservative amount of coffee and need a coffee maker with a small footprint in your home and office. It is programmable and has the advantage of a stainless carafe (with it's drawback lacking transparency.
For its price, not a bad deal if you don't prefer very hot coffee.
Zojirushi EC-DAC50 Zutto 5-Cup Drip Coffeemaker
This is an interesting, elegant and well-designed coffee maker.
Its main and very notable distinction is the coffee filter that sits within the POT, instead of the machine unit.
The unique, handsome Zojirushi Zutto EC-DAC50 5 cup coffee maker brews up to 5 small cups of coffee. It is a compact size, practical for travel.
ADVANTAGES: Nice, elegant, unique design. Uses a cone filter (conical shape, instead of a basket filter) Filter is in the pot, thus if the machine drips when removed, it will be only water, since the coffee filter is in the removable carafe Has a water filter Water chamber is removable - you don't have to grab the whole unit to fill Heating plate |
DISADVANTAGES: Expensive - close to $70 dollars (at the time of this writing)! Regular temperature characteristic for low-end coffeemakers, not super hot (if that's what you prefer) No automatic shut-off No timer No coffee-strength settings |
BOTTOM LINE:
If you are ready to spend the money and look for a nice, small, stylish cone-filter coffee maker with a removable coffee-filter that resides in the pot - you may appreciate this machine.
On the other hand, given its price and the lack of some programmable features, and the regular temperature, you can find much cheaper 4 and 5 cup coffee makers, such as the Mr. Coffee machines.
Still, Some people claim that it makes better coffee than a number of other low-end coffee makers.
If you don't mind going for a larger, higher-capacity coffee maker that also includes a water filter and has many programmable features (including temperature and strength settings), then I would recommend the Mr. Coffee programmable 12 cup coffee maker - model # FTX41CP.
As I see it, the main issue here is the price, so if you are ready to spend this amount of money, perhaps you would want to look into a single serve coffee maker (such as Keurig's or Mr. Coffee's)?
